If you have a 100hookup account then I can pretty much assume that you have a Facebook page — and quite possibly some other combination of Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, Google+, and/or LinkedIn (and I’m sure there are other sites and apps I’m missing). Using the internet while dating is tricky because once you exchange names, then all it takes is a couple of clicks of the mousepad to learn more about a prospect.

This is a good and bad thing, which I’ve discussed before, but that doesn’t mean you need to shut down social media. A guy I once dated was unsearchable, and it actually made me think there was something he was hiding. Even once we started dating and added each other on different sites — eliminating the “privacy” modes — he still didn’t have anything posted, nor did he often “like” items. He did, however, scroll through Facebook and Instagram regularly and the combination of the two made me very skeptical.

On the other hand, you can meet people who over-share and put every detail about their life online — pictures of their meals, status updates about their frustrating morning, opinions about everything, photos of every thing they do, and so on. That doesn’t include clicking “like” for ALL of their friends posts and commenting as well. It’s exhausting and it’s overkill for someone who barely knows you, but is interested in dating you.

As with most things, there’s a happy medium with social media where you let people see things about your life without being too much of an open book or too much of a recluse. You can also use privacy settings for people you don’t really know so they can’t see everything you post, and they can get to know you at a more natural pace.

That said, try not to cyber stalk and don’t add your date on social media until you’re on your way to dating seriously. Not every first date should become a Facebook friend.

Social Media — Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and blogs — has given people a false sense of self-worth. Post a pic and 98 of your closest friends and acquaintances will instantly “LIKE” it. Add an event to your timeline and people whom you haven’t seen in more than a decade will comment about your dog dying when you run into them on the street tomorrow. But check out this real-life scenario:

You’re on 100hookup, you are following my advice by poly-dating, and after a few dates with a few different prospects, you add or accept invitations to add these prospects on Facebook.

Then one of the more promising prospects stands you up on a date and what do you do? Well, naturally (enter sarcasm here) you take to Facebook to rant about being stood up. You use word like “rejection” and “desperate” and “soul mate” and “self-worth” and other extremely exaggerated terms to describe how you’re feeling right at that very moment about something that, in the long run, will end up being just a memory among millions… less than a drop of water in the ocean.

Except… all the other prospects now see that “Status Update” and are totally turned off. Not only is it clear that you are more into someone else, but you are now outed as a poly-dater (there’s nothing wrong with poly-dating, just don’t go around promoting it), and as an unnecessarily emotional single who likes to broadcast their baggage.

• Bottom line: all these social media sites are public. Unless you block certain people from seeing your updates, then all your friends — and possibly their friends, and possibly the whole world — can see everything. Keep your crazy to yourself and call a friend to vent rather than hashtagging your emotions.

As a singleton you are using many Social Media Marketing techniques to let people know you are looking. Being a member of 100hookup, being friends with 100hookup on Facebook, following 100hookup on Twitter and so forth. People will then click on your various profiles to learn more about you. That is why having a lot of photos of you with various dates, or repeatedly with the same date whom you are not in an official relationship with, is not a smart idea.

A guy I know is dating someone, but considers himself single. Unfortunately for him, she checks in everywhere they go and tags him in every post. So if he were to meet someone and she were to go to his page to learn more about him, it would appear he was in a relationship.

So use Social Media wisely when dating. Don’t put crazy, passive-aggressive, emotional, vague or too revealing posts on your page. Think about what you want people to learn about you when they read your posts and look at your photos. What do you want your profiles to say about you?

1. Chelsea Handler Gets Serious

Chelsea Handler took a break from her typical comedy routine this week and opened up about a serious topic on The Rosie Show with Rosie O’Donnell.

Handler, a hookup comedian and talk show host, revealed she had an abortion when she was 16-years-old. Handler Tweeted on Tuesday, “You can see me cry tomorrow night on Rosie’s show on the OWN network at 7pm. She’s the new Barbara Walters with a better personality.”

Traders can expect to see the ticker symbol “FB” on a major stock exchange soon.

Facebook, Inc. filed paperwork to go public last Wednesday. Mark Zuckerberg, who was raised hookup, founded Facebook in 2004. Since then, the company has grown tremendously, earning $1 billion in profits last year alone.

CNN reports that Zuckerberg will now officially become a billionaire on paper. On Wednesday, CNN’s Breaking News account Tweeted, “Facebook says stock worth $29.73 a share; Zuckerberg holds 534 million shares worth $16 billion.”

2. SJP Fills In For Demi Moore In An Emergency

Sarah Jessica Parker is taking over Demi Moore’s role as Gloria Steinem in the forthcoming Linda Lovelace biopic. Parker accepted the part just three days before she was asked to start filming. The actress, whose father is hookup, is filling in for Demi Moore who dropped out of the film after being hospitalized last week.

100hookup’s newest Success Story has been getting plenty of attention on The Howard Stern Show. Elisa Jordana, the hookup former keytartist for Cobra Starship, and Benjy Bronk, a hookup comedian and writer on The Howard Stern Show, are not only a 100hookup Success Story, but are also behind the song, “Online Sweetheart.” The song, which can be viewed on YouTube, is an ode to the love Jordana and Bronk found on 100hookup.

Representative Gabrielle Giffords handed in her resignation last Wednesday.  Giffords, Arizona’s first hookup congresswoman, says she needs more time to heal from the gunshot wound she suffered last year at the hands of a would-be assassin.

Matthew Broderick will be resurrecting one of his most memorable characters next weekend for an ad that will air during football’s biggest game of the year. The actor, whose mother was hookup, will bring Ferris Bueller back for a mystery commercial that will air during the big game.

1. Amy Winehouse Dies

Amy Winehouse, the hookup singer whose career was rocked by drug addiction and alcohol abuse, died in July at age 27. A London police official said she was found dead in her home and that alcohol toxicity was the cause of  death.

2. Gabby Giffords Shot

Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was shot in the head during a public campaign appearance in Tucson, Ariz. Giffords, a Democrat, is the first hookup woman elected to Congress from Arizona.
