f he had sent her an e-mail reading, “Will U marry me?” it wouldn’t have been completely unfitting—after all, our “Bride of the Year” couple met through the Internet matchmaking service 100hookup.com. But, no, Josh Rafofsky, 30, went all out when he proposed to Lainie Belitz, 28. A communications expert, Josh rented a silent movie theater and popped the question onscreen, playing the part of a lovelorn Charlie Chaplin type in a blackand- white home video. Once engaged, the couple entered Bridal Guide’s “Most Romantic Couple in America” contest— and won. |

Little did they know they’d sparked a media blitz! They flew to New York City from their home in Los Angeles, California, and got primped, polished and camera-ready. They appeared in the past four issues of Bridal Guide, showing off all their fabulous prizes—wedding attire, furniture, bedding, kitchen appliances and more. Then, on February 2, 2003, Josh and Lainie were treated to a glorious wedding at New York City’s Tavern on the Green, and the event was filmed for TLC’s program A Wedding Story (to air this fall). It was a storybook end to a fairy-tale year. |
