MatchNet plc

Merchants of Love

Joe Shapira and Alon Carmel founded MatchNet PLC in 1998 to help singles from across the globe meet and make that special connection via the Internet. Incorporated in England in 1998, MatchNet (MHJG: Frankfurt Exchange - Neuer Markt) is now a world-leading, online dating and relationship service provider for singles.

Currently, the company has members from more than 150 countries. The online dating services can be accessed in various languages and are being marketed in North America, Europe and Australia.

MatchNet sites include: AmericanSingles.com (United States), DeutscheSingles.com (Germany), BeMatched.com (United Kingdom), and MatchNet.com.au (Australia). The service is further accessible through MatchNet's multilingual, pan-European singles portal, EuroSingles.com. Additionally, MatchNet owns and operates 100hookup.com, the largest hookup dating service on the Internet.

To use any of the MatchNet sites, singles fill out personal profiles that cover more than 250 questions and have several in-depth essays. The profile reveals information about their education, occupation, income level, hobbies, sports and other interests. The in-depth essays describe their personality traits, opinions, and what they're looking for in an ideal partner. Members can also post up to five photos of themselves to give others an idea of what they look like. Once registered, singles can search the database for potential dates based on a variety of criteria and initiate contact with other members via e-mail.

MatchNet servers manage the initial contact so that if a member does not wish to communicate they can decline without revealing their own e-mail address. Privacy is of utmost concern to MatchNet, and the company takes extra measures to ensure it. These measures include multiple layers of firewall protection, as well as a sophisticated database structure.

MatchNet also offers co-branded and private label singles Web site services to some of the top portals and content publishers on the Internet, including AOL, Lycos, InfoSpace.com, Citadel Broadcasting, various CBS radio stations and Juno.com. MatchNet has over 150 affiliate and partnership agreements worldwide.

The company is currently aggregating relationship-oriented content through partnerships and acquisitions and plans to transition its Web sites into online relationship portals.
