Johanna and Daniel: “In the last weeks of Johanna’s 100hookup subscription, she met Dan.”
Johanna had been a member of 100hookup for about 14 years before meeting Dan. She became a paying member one last time, taking advantage of a High Holiday special in the fall of 2012, and planned to pull her profile down if nothing happened. In one of the very last weeks of Johanna’s 100hookup subscription, she started to communicate with Dan.
Johanna and Dan’s first date was in Philadelphia, where Johanna lived. They went for tea at Cosi’s in Olde City. Deciding that the date was going well, they continued the date and went to see a movie, and then went on to have dinner together at an Italian restaurant. Afterwards they walked around the city before planning their second date: a play in New Jersey, where Dan lives. By their third date, they were celebrating New Year’s in Philadelphia.
The two decided to continue to see each other long distance, even though Johanna didn’t have her driver’s license at the time and had to take four or five trains on weekends to see Dan.
Johanna, who had been applying for jobs in New Jersey to be closer to Dan, got a job near where Dan lived. She quickly packed up her belongings, gave her cat to her parents, and moved to New Jersey. Johanna passed her driver’s license exam and was gifted her parent’s car. With the move, the relationship blossomed.
So it was the weekend of their one-year anniversary last December when Dan and Johanna went to NYC to see Annie, walked around Rockefeller Plaza, and then Dan proposed to Johanna at dinner, to which Johanna said, “Yes!” Now the couple is getting married in just a few short weeks this October.
Johanna’s advice for fellow 100hookuprs is to never give up. You never know who you are going to meet, and how your life will change for the better because of it.
