How To Find the Spark… and Keep It Alive!
Relationships require work. Even if you don’t have much time to spend together, you can still find ways to make it special. Try to remember why you started dating in the first place, and all the things you adore about each other. Here are 11 ways to find the spark, and keep it alive!
1. Communicate
Communication is essential in a relationship. You and your partner should talk about everything. If you’re worried or excited about anything, share that. Whatever is on your mind, make it known.
2. Start & Finish Every Day With a Kiss
Kissing keeps the intimacy alive in a relationship. If you start your day off with a great kiss (and not just a peck!), it gives you something to smile about throughout the day. When you end each day the same way, you’re reminding your partner that the passion is still there.
3. Find Time to Be Intimate
Making time to be intimate is a necessity. Being intimate with your partner lets you reconnect and have a moment for each other. It keeps the closeness alive in the relationship.
4. Have a Nice Meal
Make time for a nice meal, even if it’s at an odd hour. Take out your special occasion dishes, set the table, and light a few candles. It’s the mood that sets a romantic scene – not the food you’re eating. Sharing a meal together keeps a sense of normalcy in the relationship, especially if you don’t have much time together.
5. Ban Comfy Clothes
When you and your partner decide to watch TV together, leave your comfy clothes in the drawer. When you have a limited amount of time together, you want to make it valuable. You need to remind each other that you’re both still attracted to each other. Getting “dressed” in almost anything but sweatpants and basketball shorts keeps you from getting too comfortable, even if it’s just to watch TV. It allows the relationship to maintain a little sexiness.
6. Send Each Other Gifts
Sending each other small gifts shows that you still care. If your partner is a woman, send her flowers or edible arrangements. If your partner is a man, send him a cigar or one of his favorite inexpensive bottles of alcohol. It’s not the gift that’s important. It’s the thought that goes with it and the note. When your partner receives a surprise gift with a sweet note, they feel special and have you on their mind all day.
7. Appreciate Each Other
Tell each other your romantic feelings. Saying “you’re amazing” or “I really care about you and feel so lucky to have you” reminds both of you why you started dating. When you work on having the positive outweigh the negative, your relationship will be better.
8. Outlaw Work Talk
When the time you spend together is precious and limited, you want to talk about important things. Of course, it’s natural to share how your day was. But telling stories about what happened at work isn’t necessary when you’re time together is valuable. Indulge in time that’s all about you two.
9. Laugh Together
Laughing with your partner brings you closer together. Telling each other jokes and making silly comments may seem juvenile. But couples who laugh together are more satisfied in their relationships.
10. Celebrate
Celebrate everything. Being supportive during the rough times is common sense. But, being supportive during the triumphs as well is just as important. So the next time something great happens, celebrate it, even if it seems like it’s not special.
11. Make a List
Make a list of all the things you like about your partner. As “high school” as it may be, it will remind you why you care about each other. Once you remember the little things you like about each other, it’s easier to make the friction disappear.
