Hanukkah is over and New Year’s Eve is just around the corner. December 31 is one of, if not the, biggest night of the year — and you have to look fabulous for it. Take a break from rifling through your wardrobe to stop and think for a moment. Is finding love one of your resolutions? Do you want to meet Mr. Right before the year is out? How about meeting him before the New Year has even begun? New Year’s Eve parties are great places to find a handsome suitor: everyone is in good spirits, the drinks are flowing and compliments are being rolled out left, right and center. If you want to attract some of this attention to yourself, you need to know what to do, how to do it and when to do it.

Choosing the right outfit is the perfect place to start. Remember, first impressions are lasting impressions. You don’t have to be Scarlett Johansson to be sexy. How many of us can say we’re in good shape six days after Christmas?! Dress to your strengths, accentuate your body in your favorite areas and make others discreet. New Year fashion should be flattering and subtly sexy, while keeping it clean and stylish at the same time.

If you have a pear shape (wider hips than your shoulders), then try to keep the attention on your torso and upwards. Strapless dresses work fantastic here in emphasizing your neck and shoulders. Cardigans ending at the waist are great for pulling the eye line upwards. If you have a skinnier shape, then you want to be doing the opposite. Draw attention and create curves where there are none, use layers, prints and textures to create volume. Walking into the party looking glamorous is half the job done!

Your body language can also go a long way to grabbing the attention of a guy. Learn to use gestures more when you speak, it gives you a great opportunity to express your outgoing personality and definitely gives you an in to break the touch barrier. Make sure your body language is open and welcoming; don’t stand with your back to the room when you’re in a group. If the rest of your friends are standing at a wall, try to stand sideways or in a V-shape. This will give men a chance to approach you without feeling like an intruder.

New Year’s Eve gives you some unique opportunities to start conversations and to gain a foothold over normal situations when you’re looking for Mr. Right. The countdown to midnight always ends in hugs and kisses, making yours linger a little longer will surely give him a sign. Fireworks offer a chance to get close to somebody without other people seeing; if it doesn’t go well, then you always have the cold as an excuse for your cuddling!

Remember guys — you need to be looking out for these signs too. Don’t leave it up to the girl to make a play for your attention. While not every girl looking for love will be so open about it, you’ll soon get a sense for who is available and who isn’t just by working the circles and talking to the party-goers around you!
