Leigh & Adena
Dear 100hookup,
Hi there,
I’m writing to let you know that you have another 100hookup success story. Leigh and I got married last week on 20th August after meeting via 100hookup on 5th July 2007 (only just over a year after meeting!).
We both live in the UK and it seems a number of odd coincidences brought us together. We’d briefly emailed each other about 8 months before meeting, but I’d started dating someone else (also via 100hookup). Then, in June 2007, my parents’ house, where I was living at the time, was destroyed in a fire. We were forced to live in a hotel for a month. I’d just finished seeing someone (again, 100hookup!) and was going to leave the internet dating scene for a while. However, I was so bored in my hotel room, which happened to have internet access, that I logged on again. Almost immediately I was IM’d by Leigh who asked where I’d been for the past 8 months. I told him I’d got my shoe stuck in some grating and had only just freed myself. We IM’d for a bit and then he suggested that we talk on the phone. We were on the phone for an hour and only ended the conversation because Leigh had to go out! During that time, we also discovered that he lived on the same road that our hotel was on which was only a three-minute walk away. In fact, he was only a five-minute car drive from our now-charred house, yet we had never crossed paths.
We met a few days later and there was no looking back. My mum always says that out of the flames came Leigh – and it’s true. If it weren’t for the fire, I would never have met him. I know for a fact that I would have kept seeing the person I was dating for a while longer, but the fire acted as a catalyst for ending that relationship. And if I hadn’t logged on when I did, I’d have missed Leigh (he had about a week left on his subscription and wasn’t going to renew).
We say in the hookup religion that it’s “beshert” when we meet the person we’re destined to marry, and I really believe this is true with Leigh. The timing was so narrow we almost missed each other – and, aside from me ending up temporarily living on the same road as him, there were a number of other coincidences which made us feel our paths were destined to cross. For example, we are emigrating to Australia together this coming Monday. I already had a Permanent Residency Visa and I visited Sydney with Leigh last year. As we were going through customs, he spotted the date I’d had my visa activated – it was the same day as his birthday! I won’t bore you, but there were a number of other events which would often make our jaws drop! As it is, the timing for doing everything we needed to do to get into Australia together meant that we couldn’t have met a moment later. My visa expired on 9th September and we entered the country on the 2nd (just a week in it). Leigh’s a detective and had to apply to the South Australian Police Force to get his own visa – this required a number of rigorous physical and psychological tests which took a fair amount of time. And he’s due to start at the police academy in Adelaide almost a month to the day after I have to be in the country. So, had we met any later, our dreams of emigrating wouldn’t have happened either.
I used to think that internet dating stood in the way of fate – that you could only meet Mr. Right if you bumped into him on the street and that if you went looking, you wouldn’t find him. Needless to say, I don’t believe that anymore!
Basically, I just want to say thank you – if it weren’t for you, we wouldn’t have met.
Thank you 100hookup!
